American Ultrarunner Tyler Andrews Sets Oxygen-Assisted Speed Record on Mount Everest
The fifth time proved to be the charm for American mountaineer and trail runner Tyler Andrews—and he made it count on the grandest stage in mountaineering. In addition to being an accomplished mountaineer, the 36-year-old Andrews is also a 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier with a 2:16:07 personal best and an accomplished ultrarunner who won the 100K race at the 2021 Javelina Jundred.
On May 27-28, Andrews reached the 29,032-foot summit of Mount Everest from Base Camp in a reported 9 hours and 55 minutes using supplemental oxygen, setting a new fastest known time (FKT) for an oxygen-assisted ascent of the world’s highest peak. The achievement was more than a decade in the making for Andrews, who had made four previous attempts before finally breaking through on his fifth. (Watch the moment he reached the summit on Instagram.)
Andrews departed Everest Base Camp at 7:11 p.m. local time on May 27. His team reported he reached the summit at 5:06 a.m. on May 28. The time is still awaiting formal verification, but if confirmed, Andrews will stand as the fastest oxygen-assisted climber ever to reach the top of Everest—a mountain that has long defined the outer limits of human ambition, and one that Andrews refused to walk away from until he had conquered it on his own terms.
The previous record he erased had stood for 23 years. Lakpa Gelu Sherpa set the previous mark of 10 hours and 56 minutes in 2003—a time that had seemed untouchable for over two decades. Andrews didn’t just edge it out; he demolished it by 61 minutes, one of the most significant margins in the history of high-altitude speed climbing.

The Battle Between Patagonia and Pattie Gonia Heats Up
Outdoor apparel and gear maker Patagonia is suing drag queen and environmental activist/influencer Pattie Gonia for $1, stating that it must defend its company tradmarks and logos. The activist/influencer has called on the company to withdraw its trademark infringement lawsuit, arguing that the legal action threatens the identity and advocacy work built around the name. Pattie Gonia sounded off in a two-part Instagram rant over the weekend, while Patagonia responded on Sunday night.
Patagonia filed a federal lawsuit against Wyn Wiley—Pattie Gonia’s legal name—in January, alleging that the activist had expanded beyond the “discrete use of a persona to engage in activism” into a broader commercial business after seeking trademark rights to the Pattie Gonia name for apparel, marketing, and events. Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, the lawsuit also claims Wiley violated a 2022 agreement that restricted Pattie Gonia from selling branded merchandise or using designs deemed “substantially similar” to Patagonia’s logo.
