What is the Order of the Unchosen?
A secret society of endurance runners who have done everything right and still don’t have a bib. You know who you are.
Each year, UltraSignup awards one Western States entry to a runner. Our goal is to reward a runner who has been waiting in the lottery pool and active in their community, racing, volunteering, and showing up year after year. We’re tallying this up with “Forsaken Points.” Forsaken Points are a reckoning of your race history, your years in the lottery pool, and your continued commitment to this deeply questionable lifestyle. They’re like raffle tickets in our own game of chance, weighted to emphasize longevity. See below for a breakdown of points. We update the Forsaken Points tracker monthly to see who has the best odds and then we randomly draw one winner. The drawing is in early December, the same week the lottery takes what little hope remains.
Eligibility Requirements
- You will have 4 or more tickets in the Western States Lottery in 2026
- You have at least 1 result on UltraSignup
- Run a Western States Qualifier
- Enter into the 2026 lottery during the lottery period in November.
Please submit the form to verify your eligibility. If you had 4 tickets in the lottery last year, than you will have 8 tickets for the 2027 lottery. The doubling effect will be reflected in November when you register for the official Western States 100 lottery.

What’s New in 2026
We’ve made two simple changes.
The Forsaken Points tracker now updates once a month. Mark it on your calendar, check it once, then go run.
Referrals are gone. You don’t need to recruit anyone into this particular darkness. This chance to win a Western States entry is yours alone. Forsaken Points are earned by running. That’s it. That’s the whole thing.

A: No. You must run the race for it to add Forsaken Points. However, DNFs are counted.
Yes! You must have a current qualifier and 4+ tickets in the Western States lottery in order to qualify to win a Western States Entry from UltraSignup.
A: No. Entries are matched to your WSER lottery registration. Duplicate accounts will be disqualified.
A: One runner will be selected from the Order of the Unchosen pool and offered an entry to the 2027 Western States Endurance Run.
A: You earn points for your WSER tickets, races you run in 2026, and your lifetime UltraSignup races. The more Forsaken Points you earn, the better your odds in the Order of the Unchosen drawing.
A: Results recorded on UltraSignup count toward your lifetime race total.
A: Yes. The Order of the Unchosen is a separate drawing but only open to lottery entrants.
A: The winner will be selected the week prior to the official Western States lottery drawing and must confirm their acceptance prior to the WSER lottery.
