Middle of the pack is when there’s still food at the aid stations. When I finished Unbound 200, it was near Midnight, they had closed the finish line food, I pulled two uneaten pizza slices out of the trash bin, I cleaned off by dipping in the fountain in front of the bank, and crawled off to sleep in back of the car. Middle can be better than back of the pack.
